TELUGU360.COM (Rating: 2.25/5):

As the conflict starts, however, Epic spins out a troublesome narrative by testing the patience of the audience. Though such patience-testing is common in love stories, somehow that gets overdosed in Epic. The director’s love for naturalism in those scenes made it a tedious watch. The conversations feel long and uninteresting. Topics like periods and mood swings are an example of that. Rather than showing them naturally, he tends to give the impression that they have thought about them with loads of maturity. Rather than keeping them organic and simple, the scenes are loud, elongated and feel more painful with the heavy BGM given, while the scenes have nothing to offer. No one gets excited after looking at the end, where they give a lead to Part 2, saying that there’s a Final Semester pending.

GREAT ANDHRA (Rating: 2/5):

Overall, EPIC – First Semester is a disappointing mixed bag. A few portions are youthful, entertaining and poetic, but much of the film feels silly, dragged out and unconvincing, especially in the middle. Young audiences may relate to a few moments, but for regular moviegoers, the film offers more frustration than satisfaction.

GULTE.COM (Rating: 2.25/5):

Overall, EPIC has its share of positives but they were few and far between. After a promising first half, the film gets into a monotonous zone and gets tedious to sit through. The overreliance on telling a personal story as it happened without adding enough drama, worked against the film. You may give it a try for some sensible writing and a few good moments in the first half but it definitely is not what the audience expected from Aditya Hasan’s debut feature film.

123TELUGU.COM (Rating: 2.75/5):

On the whole, Epic – First Semester is a love drama that is passable in parts, with decent performances from Anand Deverakonda and Vaishnavi Chaitanya. The lead pair shares a few good moments, the comedy works in parts, and Hesham Abdul Wahab’s music provides a boost to several scenes. However, the film is let down by its writing, repetitive narrative and lack of progression. The emotional payoff arrives a little too late to make a significant impact, while the prolonged relationship drama gradually tests the audience’s patience. If you are willing to sit through the slower stretches for the occasional good moments, you can consider it, but keep your expectations in check.

TIMES OF INDIA (Rating: 2.5/5):

EPIC: First Semester is less of a sweeping cinematic romance and more of a slow, fragmented collection of ordinary memories and arguments. If you enjoy realistic, dialogue-heavy indie dramas and are a fan of the lead pair’s acting, it might be worth a look for its isolated good moments. However, if you are expecting a fast-paced or highly dramatic entertainer, you may find this semester a bit too exhausting to sit through.
