Her family originally intended to name her “Namita,” but a hospital nurse accidentally wrote an “M” instead of an “N” on her birth certificate, making her name “Mamitha”. Her family never changed it

Mamitha was pursuing a degree in Psychology at Sacred Heart College in Kochi before her acting career took off. However, as film opportunities increased, managing both academics and shoots became difficult. Due to attendance shortages, she had to discontinue her studies in her third year. Despite valuing education, she made the bold decision to prioritize her passion for acting and focus fully on building her career.

Before taking the film industry by storm, she trained extensively in the Kuchipudi classical dance form and participated in numerous school arts festivals. She lent her voice for actress Krithi Shetty’s character in the Malayalam version of the film Ajayante Randam Moshanam.

Her father, Dr. Baiju Krishnan, originally wanted to become a film director, but financial constraints led him to pursue medicine instead—making Mamitha’s film career a fulfillment of that artistic passion in the family.

The actress is a Kerala Film Critics Award winner for Best Supporting Actress, an honor bestowed upon her for her portrayal of Anju in Kho Kho. This film, starring Rajisha Vijayan in the lead, also holds the record for the highest TRP rating (12.7 points) ever achieved by a female-centric Malayalam film during its world television premiere.
