Suryakantham born on 28th October 1924 at Venkata Krishnaraja Puram near Kakinada E.G.Dist., and died 18th December 1994 at Chennai.She was 14th child of her parents 10 of those children died. Suryakantham was very aggressive and naughty those days she uses to compete with boys in bicycle riding she was known as’ CYCLE RANI’ in their village.
When Jayalalitha’s mother Pushpavalli was struggling to survive in the industry Suryakantham gave her moral support and financial guidance. She was rescued by Suryakantham by giving imported make up material to her to sell and fulfill the needs. Those Days Suryakantham was running a small business of imported makeup material having prime customers like Savitri, Jamuna, Anjali Devi and others.
She suggested Pushpavalli to introduce Jayalalitha to the movie industry. She introduced Jayalalitha to Tamil and Telugu producers and directors. She used to call her Peddamma. Jayalalitha has shown the gratitude towards peddamma by suspending the assembly and attending her funeral. Only a few yesteryears actors like A.N.R. GUMMADI, JAMUNA, ANJALI DEVI from the Telugu industry attended her funeral. A noble sole passed away without any tributes. But the common man remembers her forever as Kantam Atta.
