The movie has been shot with ARRI Alexa 65 camera, thus making it the first Indian film to use this technology. The Alexa 65 camera features the A3X sensor, which is made up of three vertically stacked ALEV III sensors, achieving a maximum resolution of 6560×3100. The first ever film to shoot with this camera is Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015), where it was used to capture the underwater scenes. It was also used to shoot approximately 40 percent of The Revenant (2015).

A hefty six-ton AI-powered robotic three-wheeled vehicle called Bujji is a next-generation vehicle that has been made exclusively for the film. Shambala is a mix of high-tech forcefields, knocked-together steampunk vehicles and medieval weaponry, This is the art of the impossible, brought to us by CGI. Director Nag Ashwin had even invited Elon Musk to drive the vehicle, which Prabhas drives in the movie. The VFX team which has worked on some of the iconic Hollywood movies like Dune, Oppenheimer, Interstellar, Inception, Tenet and Blade Runner 2049 among others have worked on Kalki 2989 AD.

The movie is highly inspired by Hindu scriptures. It has reference to 3102 BC which marks the end of Lord Krishna’s incarnation. According to Hindu mythology, Kalki is the tenth and final incarnation of Vishnu. According to Hindu scriptures, his arrival marks the end of Kali Yuga (the darkest and most destructive period) and the beginning of Satya Yuga (the age of truth and righteousness). In the movie, Kalki’s actions are timeless, bringing together mythological prophecies and future scenarios.
