TELUGU360.COM (Rating: 2.5/5):
For those who are looking for a film that can help them pass the time, Comrade Kalyan can be an option this week. A series of holidays, the festive season and the absence of another major film at the box office are factors that could work in Kalyan’s favour. Comrade Kalyan has a passable first half but the second half turns serious without offering much entertainment. Sree Vishnu as Comrade Kalyan suits the role well.
GREAT ANDHRA (Rating: 2/5):
Overall, Comrade Kalyan delivers a handful of decent jokes but the weak story, underwhelming romance and lack of emotional depth hold the film back. The Naxal backdrop feels more like a setting for jokes than an integral part of the story. Bottom Line: Only humor
GULTE.COM (Rating: 2.25/5):
The dialogues, however, feel more in tune with today’s Jabardasth-style comedy and punchlines than with the era in which the story is set. The art direction, costumes and editing are adequate, while the production values are in keeping with the film’s scale. Overall, Comrade Kalyan relies heavily on comedy but struggles to balance its humour with the emotional weight of its central subject.
123TELUGU.COM (Rating: 3/5):
On the whole, Comrade Kalyan is a time-pass entertainer featuring a decent storyline. The fun segments keep the proceedings going, with the Sree Vishnu-Satya duo delivering some fine laughs. The beginning is shaky, the climax isn’t very effective, and the movie does slow down at times. Thankfully, the momentum doesn’t dip for long, with the comedy taking center stage and making this one a passable watch.
TIMES OF INDIA (Rating: 2.5/5):
As they made a story on Naxalism in a non-serious manner, it sounds unconvincing. Director Janakiram Murella handled the comedy well with a good flow, but he faltered when scenes needed to be handled seriously. Comrade Kalyan, for Sreevishnu-Satya’s Comedy!
