10. DORA   

Parijatham (Nayanathara) unwittingly buys a haunted car in a hope to run it as cab and soon realizes that it is haunted by the spirit of Dora and rest of the story is about how Dora takes revenge with the help of Nayanathara. Nayanathara is the biggest asset of this film. With her splendid performance, she made all other aspects take a back-seat. Though the pace of story narration is little slow, one should understand that this movie has been made in contemporary 80’s style of horror combined with revenge.

09. ARUNDATHI

A sweet young woman who is re-incarnation of Jejamma, has to fight her own battle against evil black magician who wants to take revenge by killing her. Anushka as ‘Arundhati and Jejamma’ and Sonu Sood as ‘Pasupathi – the black magician’ have done an outstanding performance. The dialogue ‘Vadala Bommali..Ninnodala’ has been ringing in our ears for a pretty long time after movie’s release and apparent success. This movie has bagged 10 Nandi Award in different categories in the year 2008 which it definitely deserves.

08. PIZZA

It is a story of Pizza Delivery boy who enter s a eerie bungalow to deliver pizza and gets stuck there. Rest of the story is about how he faces the horrific turn of events and how he survives to tell his tale. With excellent background score, wonderful cinematography and brilliant screenplay, Pizza keeps the tension and thrill throughout the movie. With only light being that of a torch and weird camera angles in some scenes, this movie gives goosebump moments to the viewers.

07. AVUNU

Any horror flick is not worth watching if it doesn’t spook the viewers atleast for few days after watching it and this movie might leave its effect little longer than just ‘a few days’. This movie is about a lustful ghost that haunts a woman and tries to kill her husband. Unlike usual horror movies which are shot in dark or shady lighting, this movie has horror captured in bright light. It makes the viewers blood run cold with something that cannot be seen and not with what is seen.

06. KANCHANA

Lawrence in the role of Raghava who is possessed by ghost of Kanchana gave an impressive act of spooking people around. Though a horror film, this movie addresses the society’s perception of transgender in a subtle way. Few horror episodes with Kovai Sarala are extremely hilarious while being equally scary. Sarat Kumar as transgender has given a knockout performance which contributed to the movie’s huge commercial success.

05. KASHMORA

Definitely not a movie for faint heart. This movie is about the transformation of an evil black magic wizard into a good human where he finally sacrifices his life to save lives ofpeople he intended to kill. It has a gripping story line along with edge of the seat thrilling horror sequences. Rajendra Prasad in the role of Darkha has given a splendid performance. This movie adapted from Yendamuri Veerendranath’s ‘Tulasi’ novel.

04. MARI CHETTU

A couple with their young son moves to a new house. They are unaware of the cursed tree haunting their house. Their son makes friends with two ghosts who tells him to move out of that house. But parents think they are imaginary friends until they find the sister and her boyfriend killed brutally by ghosts. Ram Gopal Varma has managed to keep the thrill alive till climax. After watching the movie, viewers also may feel haunted and feel someone watching their back from attics.

A family moves to a new flat in 13 th floor of a high rise apartment. Horror strikes them when they realize that the daily serial they watch closely mirrors the things happening in their lives. Rest of the story is how they save themselves from the haunted house. Madhavan in the role of Manohar has given a splendid performance. PC Sreeram’s cinematography is pure magic. With monochrome lighting, the fell of horror is enhanced

02. THULASIDALAM

Even for a person who doesn’t believe in supernatural beings, this movie could send chills down their spines. This is a movie adapted from the famous novel ‘Tulasidalam’ by Yendamuri Veerendranath. Behavior of a girl who is about to turn 10, suddenly becomes  spooky. Parents of this girl try many conventional and non-conventional means to cure her but in vain only to realize that she is victim of Black Magic. Narration of the story keeps the suspense intact till the end and the intensity of horror keeps the audience glued to their seats.

This is a Supernatural Horror film written and directed by Ram Gopal Varma which remains a cult classic in the genre of Horror movies. Revathi in the role of girl possessed by ghost has done an extremely convincing act and has given viewers a blood-curdling horror experience. The story, drama, confusion, thrill and horror aspects of the movie are well- managed to give a pretty amazing feel to the horror movies.
