RAGHUVARAN was an Indian actor who predominantly acted in movies made in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Hindi languages. The actor had carved his niche himself with his special style and with his baritone voice modulation. As an antagonist, he has set his own style of mannerisms and brought a distinct dialogue delivery. Raghuvaran was born 11, December 1958, Kollengode, Kerala, and died early at the age of 49, on 19th March 2008 at Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The villain role in Silk Silk Silk was well received and the film’s success opened up offers for him.
Ram Gopal Varma’s gangster flick Shiva,1989, Where he played the dreaded gangster Bhavani, which brought him immense popularity. Bhavani a crime boss uses his network of Student and workers unions to support his mentor Machiraju a local politician. The conflict starts at college, J.D. a student leader supported by Bhavani and Shiva a newcomer to the college who doesn’t know the local politics. J.D. teases Asha, a friend of Shiva, and he attacks J.D. with Cycle chain. Bhavani learns about Shiva and he considers Shiva as a potential replacement for J.D whose weakness annoys him. But Shiva rejects the proposal sent by Bhavani and he warns them not to enter the campus. Bhavani could not take his rejection, plans to create an unrest by killing one of his friends. Shiva sensing a risk to his brother’s family leaves their home and contests in college election opposite J.D. Over a series of events Machiraju also considers Shiva more potential than Bhavani in the changing scenario.
Bhavani will get annoyed and develops a vengeance against his mentor Machiraju. Police start supporting Shiva and eventually Bhavani will be cornered from all the angles and will be forced to take the shelter at Machiraju. In due course Machiraju insults him, deeply hurt Bhavani kills him. When Shiva attacks him he will not be able to resist him and he kills himself. A tremendous performance by Raghuvaran brought him best antagonist image and a series of offers in Telugu Movies.
He has received several State and Film Fare Awards for his performance in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu movies. He enacted in Maniratnam’s Anjali as a father of an autistic child and later he played as Mark Antony in Basha, as a corrupt chief minister in Oke Okkadu
