Top Reviewers:

TELUGU360.COM (Rating: 2.5/5):

Director Rahul has made a genuinely good atttempt and deserves appreciation for bringing this forgotten story to the screen. Vijay Deverakonda has put lot of effort. Ranabaali has pockets of good content, but its slow-paced narration is a significant drawback from a commercial standpoint.

GREAT ANDHRA (Rating: 2.75/5):

If you enjoy grounded, realistic historical dramas and don’t mind slow-paced storytelling, the lead pair’s performances might make it worth a watch. However, casual viewers looking for a quick, commercial action entertainer may find it dull and overstretched.

GULTE.COM (Rating: 2.5/5):

Overall, Ranabaali has a good first half and a few good moments in the second half. The attempt to narrate an untold story in a sincere manner is certainly appreciable. However, the lack of depth in the writing and the predictable screenplay along with excessive runtime in the second half, worked against the film. The proceedings just keep wandering around a ‘single point’ and ended up making the audience become restless at times. A bit more care in writing and editing should’ve made the film better.

123TELUGU.COM (Rating: 2.75/5):

On the whole, Ranabaali is a period action drama that features sincere effort but delivers only a moderate impact. The famine concept hasn’t been explored before, and the first half is decent. However, the movie gets bogged down by a predictable and below-par second half. The narrative choices aren’t great, and the lengthy runtime is another major shortcoming. Vijay Deverakonda delivers an honest performance, but the movie doesn’t completely live up to its potential.

TIMES OF INDIA (Rating: 2.75/5):

Ranabaali is the kind of film you want to defend because the intention behind it is so clearly good. Rahul Sankrityan is not chasing box office trends nor is he making a commercial product disguised as history. He genuinely cares about his subject matter. He genuinely wants the audience to know about a chapter of their own history that has been buried. He genuinely believes cinema can be the vehicle for that knowledge. All of that is admirable. None of it exempts the film from working as a film. It can be deeply researched, beautifully intentioned and still not work as a piece of cinema if it cannot find the discipline to match its ambition.
