A teenage girl Mani, who played Sita role in Sita Rama Kalyanam, produced by N.Trivikrama Rao under National Art Theatre Films in 1961, directed by N.T.Rama Rao. She got selected for a lead role in a Hindi movie by name PARAS MANI directed by Babu Bhai Mistry. He was not happy with the similarity of title and her name, so he decided to change her name. Being fascinated with Rabindranath Tagore’s writing in GITANJALI, he named her as GITANJALI. Since then she continued her screen name as GITANJALI became popular. She had a long career as a heroine as well as comedy partner to Padmanabham a comedian of yesteryears.
