BNAGI REDDY helped director B.Vittalacharya in the production of Mane Thumbida Hennu a Kannada movie of 1958 (An earlier version of Telugu movie Gundamma Katha). As an act of gratitude, he sold the remake rights to Nagi Reddy. Chakrapani decided to retain only the background of Gundamma family from the original and rewrote the remaining script. Chakrapani killed Gundamma’s cowardly husband character because he felt that husband who can not answer his wife is not worthy to be included in the story. Nagi Reddy Family members and the employees of Vijaya Vauhini studios used to ask Chakrapani GUNDAMMA KATHA ENTHA VARAKU VACHCHINDI? ( What is the progress in Gundamma story’) Which prompted Chakrapani to name the movie as GUNDAMMA KATHA after considering various options.
