After tasting success with Sarat Chandra Chatterjee’s cult classic Devadasu, Vinoda Pictures boss Dronavajjala Lakshminarayana had set his eyes on Gurajada Apparao ’s hugely popular play of 1890 KANYASULKAM. The surprise package is the inclusion of SRI SRI’s lyric “ANANDAM ARNAV MAITHE” from his collection of poems from Mahaprasthanam. Ghantasala made musical feat of sorts by tuning the forceful free verse as a semi-classical melody, it was filmed on Savitri. The movie was released on Aug 26th, 1955 was an average grosser. Twenty-eight years later in re-release, the movie was a money spinner. The musical feat of Ghantasala got critics applause.
