The period was late 1960's N.T.R. was cheering with mythological and folklore movies one after another. A.N.R was busy with social movies working schedules .Branching out from the regular melodrama that was dominating social movies of those days. Society was the setting and its burning problem were the milieu amidst all this came in his movie SUDIGUNDALU 1968.
[qodef_dropcaps type=”square” color=”” background_color=””]T[/qodef_dropcaps]he closing speech of .AN.R in the courtroom deserves to find a place. The way A.N.R performed the role of a 60 year old with utmost care and sensibility when he was still in his 40’s and the way he performed the worldly wisdom born out of the rich experience, that the character amassed over it’s course of life is splendid. We can understand the deeply conflicting emotions of the character with the performance of ANR. When he takes on the job of defending the murderers of his beloved son, A.N.R successfully made it acceptable with this performance. It can be categorically be said that SUDIGUNDALU is the best work out of K.VISWANATH,A,N,R and ADURTHI SUBBARAO,s efforts, that is still remained fresh, contemporary and everlasting. Devadasu brought out the sadness of the character in A.N.R. SUDIGUNDALU brought out the sadness for society, which should be rank on par with the former, performance wise. SUDIGUNDALU bagged National film fare Award for best film award and NANDI AWARD also.
The first best scene of the movie was BALLET played by the school children about independence struggle, with all the characters played by the school children. The BALLET clearly shows how britishers came to India and about freedom struggle then Gandhi’s death, partition of the country. Very informative ballet in just about 15 to 20 minutes.
The second best scene of the movie was COURT SCENE. Judge Chandra Sekharam(A.N.R) Is very kind and helpful to the relatives of the accused. His wife dies after giving birth to a baby boy. The one named as Raja was killed by two youth (Vijaya Chander and Prasanna Devi). Judge resigns and steps in to pleaders shoes and argues in the favour of accused. Finally he concludes his argument by saying “responsibility of giving the accused right direction lies with the parents and society. SUDIGUNDALU in his view are the many hurdles and problems the young generation is facing nowadays. If we give them right direction they would become professionals and responsible citizens”.
