Born as saraswathi devi, she changed her name to sharada after starting acting career and ‘urvasi’ is her title as ‘national film award for best actress’ was designated the ‘urvasi award’ and she recieved it twice.

Though sharada never acted in any of l.V.Prasad’s films, she got her formal training in acting under him and she attributes her performances and growth in the field to the training given by him.
